On June 12th Hiroshi Isoyama Shihan will be visiting Southlake, TX where he will be the leading instructor at an Aikido seminar. Isoyama Shihan currently holds an 8th Dan within Aikikai and is the Chief Instructor at the Ibaraki Shibu Dojo in Iwama Japan on behalf of Ueshiba Moriteru Doshu. Isoyama Shihan started his career in Aikido at the age of 12 as a student of Ueshiba Morihei O’Sensei and founder of Aikido. During his long career in the Martial Arts, Isoyama Shihan has been the Chief of Defensive Tactics for the Japan Self Defense Force Academy, and has been an instructor to the U.S. Army on self defense tactics. Some of his first students were members of the American Military Police, and eventually included amongst others Steven Seagal Sensei as well as members of Japan’s armed forces.     It is our pleasure to announce that Hiroshi Kato, a direct student of Morihei Ueshiba, will be in Houston on the first weekend of March on Friday the 5th, Friday night and ending on Monday, March 8. This 2010 March Seminar will fill up quickly. The word always spreads and we will be packed out within a few weeks. The seminar this year will cost $40 per day except for Saturday which will be $85. It will cost $100 for the weekend (Sat, Sun) or $125 for the Friday through Monday night. Kato Sensei is now accepting invitations to all parts of the world including Indonesia, Holland, Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina and the U.S. If you want to be in Houston for this event, today is the day to register, pay and guarantee your registration.     Edinburgh Aikido Club are delighted to welcome Tamura Sensei for his first aikido seminar in Scotland. The course times are Saturday (10-12, 3 - 5.30pm) Sunday (10 - 12). Tamura Sensei became an uchi-deshi at the Aikikai Hombu Dojo in 1953. He was a favourite uke of O’Sensei, accompanying him in many demonstrations including his well-known trip to Hawaii in 1961. In 1964, Tamura Sensei moved to Marseilles, France where he is now the technical director of the French FFAB Federation (Fédération Française d'Aïkido et de Budo). Tamura Sensei has had an enormous influence on the spread of aikido in Europe and gives seminars all over the world.

    Aikido Kenkyukai International Australia/Fudoshin Dojo would like to share and help highlight the happy event celebrated by AKI Japan. The party in Honour of Satoshi Takeda sensei (Kametake-san) was celebrated Sunday 31/1/2010. Many attended and showed appreciation for the effort filled years of service to the Aikido Networks of his own teacher Takeda Yoshinobu Shihan 8-dan. Kametake-san is a highly motivated advocate for the Aikido of O'Sensei and the Ueshiba Legacy. We are so happy to see his happyness.

    Cleveland Aikikai and Oberlin Aikido Club will be hosting Frank Ostoff Sensei, 5th Dan, of Aikido Center of Düsseldorf on March 4-7, 2010 in Oberlin and Cleveland Heights. Ostoff Sensei is returning to Ohio following his last year visit. That event was immensely enjoyed by many aikidoka who came from different states and countries to practice in Oberlin. Ostoff Sensei holistic approach to training mind and body has a broad appeal to students of all ages and affiliations. Our March seminar will be building on that experience and beyond. There will be a special class (space limited) on Thursday, March 4 at 7 p.m. in Cleveland Aikikai dojo at 3965 Mayfield Road, Cleveland Heights, OH 44121. The Oberlin seminar schedule will be as follow: Friday, March 5, 7-9:00 p.m., Saturday, March 6, 10-12 p.m. and 3-5:00 p.m., Sunday, March 7 at 10-12 p.m. The cost of the seminar is $100 for all three days, or $30 per class.     Aikido of Tamalpais in San Rafael, CA, will be holding a special training in honor of the late George Leonard sensei on Sunday, January 31st from 10am until 1pm. Training will be lead by Wendy Palmer sensei and Richard Strozzi-Heckler sensei. Leonard sensei together with Strozzi-Heckler sensei and Palmer sensei co-founded Aikido of Tamalpais in 1976.

    Toshiro Suga began aikido in 1968 at Hombu dojo, Tokyo. He moved to France in 1971 and is now a senior student of Tamura Sensei. He gives seminars all over the world. His annual course in Edinburgh is during the 14-16th May 2010. Course times are Fri (1845 - 2015), Sat (10-2, 2-4pm), Sun (10 - 1pm). More details available on www.edinburghaikido.co.uk.
