Partner Roles

Uke - person who gives the attack and is thrown or immobilized

Nage - person who throws, defends, or performs the technique (also referred to as Tori or Shite)

Parts of the Body

Men - head

Jodan - face

Yokomen - side of head

Chudan - chest (middle)

Hara - center point (roughly in the area below the navel)

Gedan - low

Hasso - high (shoulder)

Kata - shoulder

Hiji - elbow
