Class Schedule

Classes are held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday nights from 7:30pm to 8:30pm for Basics/Beginner Class and 8:35 to 9:30pm for Regular Class. Students, regardless of rank or experience, are welcomed and encouraged to participate in all classes. Students are expected to be dressed and ready for class by 7:15. Before class starts, the mats must be swept and wiped down for cleanliness. All jewelry must be removed and long hair should be tied back. Dogi (uniform) must be washed and personal hygiene tended to accordingly.

Who are Eligible Students?

Our dojo focuses on teaching aikido for adults. The reason for this is two-fold. First, much of aikido's practice focuses on the development of one's mental state and self-discipline. While there are successful aikido classes for children, they are typically in the context of "kid's classes", with the content of those classes being geared towards younger students. Second, the physical (height and weight) differences between youths and adults can be significant. Although proper aikido technique reduces much of this consideration during practice, working with these extremes requires particular care and technical expertise to avoid injury. Aikido training for children is best left in context with other kids of similar sizes and weights, both for safety and to ensure their practice of the art is enjoyable.

Considering the above, we do allow teenagers (14+) who are interviewed and deemed mature enough to practice in the class. If you have a teenager who is interested in the joining, or you are a teen looking for aikido, please contact the dojocho to discuss your options. Keep in mind that you will be required to provide your own reliable transportation to and from the dojo and your maturity and conduct will be a major consideration in joining the class.

Monthly Class Dues

Normal monthly dues are $70 per month. Dues are due at the beginning of the month, preferably no later than the 5th of the month. Dues can be paid 1) online, 2) through automatic monthly withdrawal, or 3) via a personal check made to "The Central Florida Aikikai". Cash is accepted also, if necessary.

Monthly dues are required to keep the dojo maintained and available for training. By supporting the dojo, you provide yourself and others a suitable dojo in which to train. In general, dues are paid as a monthly "flat fee"—rather than per class—and permit students to practice in as many classes as they choose. While you're encouraged to attend as many classes as possible, it is understood that you may occasionally miss classes. However, the dojo has monthly business obligations that it must meet to operate, therefore students are not permitted to pay on a "pay-by-class" basis.

New students are encouraged to try the first two classes for free to see if aikido training is enjoyable to them. Once they decide to join, they are encouraged to take advantage of our 8-Week Beginner Program, which includes: 8 weeks of beginner classes, a beginner dogi (uniform) with white belt, and includes our annual membership fee of $25. At the end of the 8-week program, students interested in continuing their practice will pay to complete the current month (if necessary) and then commence paying dues on a monthly basis as usual.

Mat Fees for Visiting Students

If you are visiting Orlando and would like to practice while in town, we would welcome you to visit us. Visitors are welcomed anytime and without prior notice. In return, we would appreciate a mat fee of $10 per evening (two classes) you visit.

If you practice locally at another aikido dojo and would like to supplement your regular practice, you are also invited to join us for a mat fee of $5 per class, or $10 per evening. (Those students interested in supplemental training on a consistent basis, please contact the dojocho to discuss training fee options.)
